What Is Microneedling?

Microneedling is an innovative cosmetic procedure for treating fine lines, wrinkles, uneven skin texture, enlarged pores, and more. After undergoing microneedling, you’ll enjoy smoother and more youthful looking skin. Dr. Suseela Narra, the board certified dermatologist at Narra Dermatology and Aesthetics in Issaquah, WA, offers microneedling and other dermatology services to help your skin looks its best.

How Microneedling Improves Skin

Microneedling improves the look and feel of skin by stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, which give skin its elasticity. As we age, naturally declining collagen and elastin levels can leave skin less firm and smooth. Additionally, fine lines and wrinkles can develop. By stimulating the production of both collagen and elastin, microneedling helps restore firmer, smoother, and more youthful looking skin.

Some of the many exciting ways microneedling improves skin include:

  • Evens out skin tone
  • Minimizes fine lines and wrinkles
  • Improves skin texture and elasticity
  • Diminishes the appearance of acne scars
  • Reduces sun spots and other signs of early aging
  • Minimizes the appearance of enlarged pores
  • Reduces the appearance of stretch marks
  • Skin appears more refreshed and youthful
  • Makes sagging skin firmer

The Microneedling Procedure

The microneedling procedure is nonsurgical and minimally invasive. Depending on the severity of skin issues being treated, anywhere from one to five treatment sessions might be needed. Sessions are usually brief and there is typically very little down time. Most individuals are able to continue normal activities shortly after undergoing microneedling. At our dermatology practice in Issaquah, WA, microneedling is performed using a small roller containing several extremely tiny needles.

Prior to beginning treatment, a topical numbing cream is carefully applied to the skin to minimize potential discomfort. Once the numbing has taken effect, the microneedling roller device is gently rolled over the skin being treated. The tiny needles on the roller create microscopic pricks in the skin, which prompts the body’s natural healing process. Over time, the increased production of collagen and elastin helps improve the skin’s texture, tone, and appearance.

After rolling the skin with the microneedling device, a hyaluronic acid serum is gently applied to the skin to protect it. The skin might appear somewhat red or inflamed immediately after treatment, but that subsides within a few hours. Some patients notice improved skin firmness shortly after treatment, but maximum improvement and results can be observed within a few weeks after the body has produced more collagen and elastin.

Microneedling is a highly effective method for restoring more youthful looking skin without surgery. For microneedling in Issaquah, WA, schedule an appointment with Dr. Narra by calling Narra Dermatology and Aesthetics at (425) 677-8867.
